The Muslim scholars who have sincerely tried to know Islam have always reflected on the verses of the Qur’an so that they may be able to analyze and understand the verses better. This, however, is not without its difficulties. To reflect on the verses of the Qur’an as the most authentic of the four proofs for ijtihâd, requires a thorough knowledge of the inside and outside of this divine book. In this article, the writer explains one such difficulty, explaining the importance of the knowledge of the outside of the Qur’an for a more reasonable understanding of the verses of the Qur’an.
