Sādāt (pl. of Sayyid: descendants of the Prophet) of Kiyā were in control of a vast area of Gīlān, particularly the part of Gīlān located in Gīya Pīsh (formerly known to cover the east bank of Sefīdrūd) with Lāhījān as its center. In the beginning, this dynasty were of the Zaydī School, but when the Safavids rose to power, they converted to Imāmī Shī‘ism. The present paper touches upon the history and ideology of this dynasty and their relation to Imāmī Shī‘ism.
