Abstract

The issue of the Qur’anic reading (qira’at) has received much attention by the scholars of the Qur’an studies since long time ago, and many books have been written by them in this field.
Nevertheless, of all the above-mentioned books only a few have been left to us. Yet, a small number of these books have been published, the subject of most of which are the “seven” or “ten” readings. In spite of the importance of research concerning a specific qāri (reciter of the Qur’an), little research has been done in this respect.
Ḥasan al-Baṣrī is one of the pioneers of qirā’at among the fourteen reciters who particularly deserves to be studied. The present research is dedicated to his qirā’at from a specific point of view. Accordingly, this paper has gathered, categorized, and examined the instances attributed to him and the outcomes are presented to the reader.
This paper is organized on the following four bases:
1.Ḥasan al-Baṣrī’s masters and disciples.
2. Sanad (chain of transmission) of his qirā’at.
3.Deliberations on his qirā’at.
4.Scholars’ opinions in this regard.
